Submersed in Bliss

At Texas Wedding Guide, we stress that a wedding is about celebrating the invidiuality of not only the bride and groom, but of their families and friends who have supported their union from day one. With this said, there has been an influx of creative, fun and innovative ways to help honor a blissful union. Unique photography, crafty table settings, inspiring color palettes, and varying thematic decorations all contribute to making a wedding truly one-of-a-kind. There is a new movement that several photographers, including Amy Karp Photography, are doing something that is at the forefront of exceptional bridal/wedding photography: underwater photography.

Amy Karp treats an underwater photoshoot as she would any shoot on land when it comes to being prepared. Karp shoots with her regular camera (except it is in tight water proof housing) and is usually a two-to-three hour session. In the photo shown above, and below, a bride’s pearls and lace are exhibited in an ethereal and angelic manner. Karp discusses that a wedding dress underwater is not ruined as long as it is hung afterwards to air dry. However, please read with precaution to any materials that may not be water friendly. With so many customized bridal gowns made out of exotic and premium materials, it does not hurt to ask your gown source if it is safe.

Karp wanted to emphasize the essence of a pearl so she filled up white balloons with water, and tied bricks to the strands holding them in place.

I wanted to pull in bigger and rounder elements that emulate a pearl, said Karp.

It is definitely a way to highlight the feminine notion of iridescent jewelry, the feminine nature of a bride and the innate beauty within her.

These photos can be a part of a timeless collection that can be archived forever. Being incredibly individualistic, these photo shoots can be played around with to emphasize the bride and groom’s personality. There is no limit to the amount of props or subjects you can incorporate to make the session unique. Karp has been involved in styled photoshoots where vinyl records and other props are floating in the background. It adds a demure and elegant aeshetic to any photography, allowing for a collection to be archived with sentimental value and honor.
