“a shop can look messy and the interior space simply uninteresting if visitors can see all its products in one glance”
Giving people a small ” ! ” moment.
There are so many small ” ! ” moments hidden in our everyday.
But we don’t recognize them.
and even when we do recognize them,we tend to unconsciously reset our
minds and forget what we’ve seen.
But we believe these small ” ! ” moments are what make our days so
interesting, so rich.
That’s why we want to reconstitute the everyday by collecting and
reshaping them into something that’s easy to understand.
We’d like the people who’ve encountered nendo’s designs to feel these
small ” ! ” moments intuitively.
That’s nendo’s job.
TI stumbled across the work of Japanese architecture firm and design studio, nendo while scanning their work fora small clothing boutique in Kyoto dubbed Indulgi. What nendo succeeded in executing was combining the effiicent problem solving inherent to all and any design projects with a sense of great wit and play. This is how the firm described their strategy;
A small clothing shop in Kyoto’s Nakakyo district. The deep, narrow space has good sightlines,but this can be dangerous, too: a shop can look messy and the interior space simply uninteresting if visitors can see all its products in one glance. We decided to add shielding elements to create a space that could never be seen in its entirety, one in which different elements appear and disappear from view, changing customers’ experience of the shop as they move about it. Walls create an over-strong sense of pressure, and the space already contained a number of doors, so we added even more doors to it.
